Class companions for 5th and 6th grade
When the new students first arrive at our school, the school is something new, exciting and extraordinary for them.
A new school, new classmates, new teachers and a lot more students than in their old school can be very intimidating.
This is the reason why every 5th and 6th grade class has two class companions , which are students from the 10th grade of our school. They accompany the children from their first day at school on.
The companions are contact points for the students. They help and support them as problem solvers, playmates, comforters and act as role models. The tasks of a companions are very diverse. They work closely with the respective class teachers and their goal is to strengthen the social skills of the children and to help to build the community.
Some specific examples of their tasks are:
• to accompany the introductory journey
• to promote the class community
• to be present during some breaks
• to accompany the class on hiking days and excursions
• to help with solutions for students’ problems
• attend classes regularly in the classroom or on special occasions such as the Christmas party
• to provide the students with support should they have learning difficulties.
But there are also benefits for the companions as they get the possibility to try themselves in a social role, they are learning to deal with responsibility and how to deal with children. They can get creative in developing and implementing new ideas and overall it is a good preparation for the future work life.
Companions should be persistent, patient, friendly, responsive and open to new challenges. They should be taking own initiatives, have organizational skills and most important they should like teamwork and to work with children.

The park in our school
One part of our schoolyard is the park. It´s a beautiful area next to the chapel . If you want to chill there, then you have to pass the way next to the new school building. The park consists of a big green patch of grass and many trees. One of the oldest trees is a big dark fir. If you want to sit in the shade, you can take a seat on the bench under the fir. In the middle of the park there is a big stone circle. It is also named “The Atrium” and reminds of the “Colosseum” in Rome. But it´s much smaller. The stone circle has several floors where you can sit or play tag with your friends. It´s a famous meeting place for students in the break. In the summer you are able to bathe in the sun and in the winter, you can build snowmen on the patch. Behind the numerous shrubberies it´s funny to play hide and seek. In front of these, there is a table where you can sit and eat, for example. If you like flowers, you can go to the school garden next to the park because there are beautiful flowers and plants. When it´s time for the school festival, you will usually find sport activities or funny reaction games in the park. In the rearmost part of the park there is an old grave yard with many graves from the erstwhile nuns, but it isn`t allowed to play or walk there. Years ago, there were nuns who lived in our school, now most of them left us.
My opinion:
I like the park because it is one of the best and most beautiful places to pass the break with my friends. When I was younger I loved to play tag there all break long. Now I`m just sitting in the stone circle chilling.
I asked a few friends what they like about the park:
I like the park because the younger students can play there and the older students are able to chill on a bench. It´s a great place for everyone. - Marlene
I like the park because you can enjoy nature and it´s a good place to calm down and take a break from the school stress. - Collin
I like the stone circle because you can sit there and you can talk to your friends. I also like the trees and nature. The park is great for the younger children because they can play and run there. - Alicia
I like the park because it´s a good place to relax and get away from your stress. - Jan

Die Sporthalle
In summer we sometimes go out to the sports field of Geisenheim and do there exercises which we can’t do so well in the gym, because it is much bigger and offers us even more possibilities. At the end of the lesson we often play nice games on the soccer field. In general, it’s very cool to make sport outside, but we waste some time for the way.
We use our gym not only to do sport. When we have our “Solidarity Day” we meet up there and have a small church service. For the enrolment we always use our gym. Once a year we have our “football midnight tournament” in our gym or in the gym of the Rheingauschule. It is very nice to play there with friends and maybe to win the cup. Once or twice a week the basketball club practises in the afternoon. If you are interested in basketball you can go there.
Digitale Ausstattung

It’s an elective course which you can choose at the end of grade 8. It costs 63 euros. The teachers involved are Mrs Berghof and Mr Wünsch. The course is divided into five modules. Each module is made up of small parts which teach you how to use your computer step by step. At the end of each module there’s an online test which consists of 30 questions about the module you have just learnt.
In the 9th grade you learn the typical computer basics and how to work with the standard computer applications Word and PowerPoint. You also get to know MS Windows and how to protect your computer against viruses.
In the 10th grade you learn how to use Excel, Online basics and how to create and modify diagrams and graphs.
This course is very popular among students because it is extremely important to have good computer skills these days. After all, you need to be able to use computers at home, at school for presentations and possibly later at work.
